Hazard Communication and Chemical Handling

Course Description
  • Training shall consist of a combination of formal instruction (e.g., lecture, discussion, interactive, video, written material),  
  • Each candidate will undergo a theory assessment to demonstrate their understanding of the GHS labeling system and identification of hazardous properties of workplace chemicals for successful completion of the course.
  • Completed multiple-choice questions that would be assessed to verify their understanding.

Course Objective

By the end of this training program, participants would be able to

  • Gain an overview of the OE HAZCOM Process
  • Be aware of operations and locations where hazardous chemicals are present
  • Be able to describe the features of a SDS
  • Know the location and availability of chemical inventories and SDSs
  • Beware of labeling requirements for chemical containers
  • Beware of health, safety and environment requirements for storage of chemical containers
  • Appreciate Safe Work Practices “before”, “during” and “after” working with hazardous chemicals
  • Appreciate the importance of methods and instruments that detect the presence of hazardous materials
  • Be able to identify different types personal protective equipment for working with hazardous chemicals
  • Be aware of appropriate actions to take in case of an emergency relating to hazardous chemicals.
