G. Structural Design for Non-Structural Engineers - Fundamentals of Seismic Design

Objectives

This practical course provides a comprehensive introduction to seismic design principles and practices for building structures. You’ll learn how the dynamic response of a structure differs from its response under static loads and how the design of a structure can affect the size of forces developed during a seismic loading situation.
By attending, you’ll also learn how to:

  • estimate the probability and intensity of ground motions likely to occur at a site and their design implications
  • select an appropriate structural configuration for a specific site
  • identify earthquake design limit states for a structure and the level of ground motion appropriate for design at those states
