Electrical Engineering Fundamentals for Facilities Personnel

Introduction

Electrical Engineering Fundamentals for Facilities applies fundamental electrical engineering principles to oil and gas facilities design and operation without the need for formal electrical engineering training. Through the use of individual and team problem solving you will learn about transformers, motors, generators, one-line diagram interpretation, and interfaces between facilities engineers, contractors, and maintenance personnel. Participants gain a better understanding of what ‘Electrical’ is and does and what is important to the ‘Electrical’ discipline.

Objectives

By the end of this course participants will gain knowledge on:

  • Single and three-phase electrical circuits
  • AC and DC electric motors
  • Power factor
  • Transformers
  • Wire and cable sizing
  • One-line diagrams
  • Circuit breakers and fuses
  • Switchgear and Motor Control Centers (MCC)
  • UPS and battery systems
  • Hazardous area classification for electrical equipment

Target Audience

Oil and Gas Facilities Engineers as well as newly graduated Electrical or Controls engineers who need to improve their basic understanding of Electrical systems within Oil and Gas facilities.
